Unlocking a BlackBerry Pearl 8100 will open its settings to accepting SIM cards from mobile providers other than the one you bought the phone from. This can be useful if you are changing mobile providers or selling your BlackBerry. The unlock code is based on your BlackBerry Pearl 8100 International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, a sort of social-security number for your handset. Generally, you can obtain your unlock code from your mobile provider’s customer service department.
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Step 1
Turn on your BlackBerry Pearl 8100. Press the menu key to go to the applications page. Click “Options.” Click “About” on the next screen. Write down your BlackBerry Pearl 8100 IMEI number for reference purposes.

Step 2
Contact your mobile provider’s customer service department. Explain to them that you will be using your BlackBerry Pearl 8100 for purposes that require you have the SIM card unlocked. (For example, you may be traveling internationally and need to temporarily use an international SIM card for calls.) Provide them with your IMEI code that you wrote down in Step 1. Provide your email address to receive the unlock code instructions

Step 3
Follow your mobile provider’s unlock code instructions when you receive them by email. Go to the SIM card menu in your BlackBerry Pearl 8100 under Advanced Options. Enter the text and unlock code as per the unlock code instructions. Confirm your choice and restart your phone. Your BlackBerry Pearl 8100 is now unlocked.

Tips & Warnings
The guidelines regarding releasing unlock codes to customers vary according to each mobile provider. Generally, if you have signed at least one two-year contract and have had your account for at least three months, they are willing to give you the unlock code. If you are willing to pay for it, you can also buy your unlock code from a third-party company that specializes in unlocking BlackBerrys. Pricing can vary.
While unlocked phones generally work just fine, certain features specific to your mobile provider may not work properly. For example, T-Mobile offers a MyFaves program for free calls to certain phone numbers. The MyFaves BlackBerry application doesn’t work on unlocked phones. Please contact your mobile provider for details on known application issues with unlocked phones before you attempt to unlock your BlackBerry Pearl 8100.
